Frequently Asked Questions

Q & A with the Author

  • God put writing on my heart, and several trusted advisors confirmed it was the right time. It flowed naturally out of my years in ministry, and I sensed it was a message meant not just for my family or my congregation—but for the wider body of Christ.

  • As a father and pastor, I’ve thought a lot about what matters most. If I could pass on just one thing, it would be a true understanding of who God is. The character of God isn’t just theology—it’s the foundation for how we view life, make decisions, and experience hope.

  • Jesus said the kingdom of God is like a man who finds a treasure in a field, and in his joy gives everything to possess it. I want readers to rediscover God as that treasure—beautiful, life-changing, worth everything. And I want them to experience the joy that comes with knowing Him.

  • I wanted people to be able to process what they read—both personally and with others. The reflection questions are meant to move the content from reading to conversation, from information to transformation. I also broke the book into shorter, manageable chunks because I wanted it to be accessible—even for those who don’t normally read books. Whether someone reads a page a day or a chapter a week, they can still engage deeply with God’s character at their own pace.

  • This book is for believers at every stage:

    • New Christians discovering who God really is

    • Seasoned believers who need refreshment in a confusing or dry season

    • Small groups and discipleship relationships looking for meaningful, discussion-driven content

    • Graduates, church newcomers, or anyone looking for a spiritually rich gift

  • It’s both theological and transformational. It’s designed to engage the mind without neglecting the heart. Many books either teach or inspire—this one does both. It’s grounded in Scripture and reflection, but written in a way that’s warm, honest, and practical. The goal is that readers don’t just know more about God—but fall more in love with Him and live differently as a result.

  • At Our True Legacy, we equip people to follow the Great Commission—personally and purposefully. This book is a core resource for that mission. Whether I’m leading retreats, mentoring, or podcasting, it’s all about helping people experience God’s character and then reflect that character in their lives. This book puts that mission into writing.

“I’ve been using this material with Mike to minister and make disciples. Together, we’ve led men’s retreats centered on the content of this book, each weekend focusing on a single characteristic of God. I’ve had the privilege of watching men grow in their understanding of who God is—and leave those weekends deeply transformed. When we slow down and truly rest in God’s character, something supernatural takes place. I’ve seen it firsthand. I’m excited to see how God will continue using this book to change lives far beyond my own circle—one heart at a time.”

“As the world gets crazier, The Greatest Treasure is the perfect book to calm the soul and help us hear God’s truth. Mike does a great job of explaining seven of the many attributes of God, and one of my favorite chapters is on God’s holiness. This is a book for anyone who wants to experience God’s love in a deeper way. I don’t believe this is a one-and-done read—it belongs in your go-to arsenal of spiritual resources. I especially love the verses to ponder and the questions at the end of each chapter, which help you dig deeper in thought and prayer. I’ll be returning to this book often.”

“The Greatest Treasure is wonderful—not only solid in doctrine, but also a timely reminder of what truly matters: drawing near to God. It reminded me of the church at Ephesus in Revelation. Though strong in doctrine, they had left their first love. The Lord calls them to remember and repent. In these days, the church must do the same—remember our First Love, our Treasure: knowing and loving God, understanding His true nature. Jeremiah 29:13 says, ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.’ It is my prayer that this excellent work will encourage others to seek His face. As a side note, I’ll be using The Greatest Treasure in the weekly courses I teach. Well done.”
